Coaching

Coaching for writers who are not yet manuscript-ready.

Most writing coaches help you write a book. I help you get to the place where it makes sense to write one.

A lot of writers I work with have a real book in them but do not yet have a manuscript on the desk. Maybe there is a half-finished draft from years ago. Maybe there is a folder of fragments. Maybe there is just a strong sense that something needs to be written and no idea how to begin.

The work I do with these writers is developmental. We figure out what the book is. We figure out who it is for. We build the practice that gets the writing done. We end the engagement when there is a serious draft to take to an editor.

This is not a course. This is not a group program. It is one-on-one work with me, on Zoom, over the period of weeks or months that the particular project requires. The cadence and the duration are shaped to the writer.

If you have an editorial-ready manuscript already, you do not need me at this stage. You need Crossroads Press or another serious press, and I would direct you there. This coaching is for the writer one or two steps earlier.

Begin with the End in Mind

A five-page worksheet for the writer about to launch a book — or thinking seriously enough about launching one to want to plan rather than guess. Walks through your audience, your positioning, your launch channels, and your media strategy. Drop your email below and I'll send it.

What we work on together

  • Clarifying what kind of book you are actually writing (topic vs. argument vs. reader's journey)
  • Identifying the reader and the shelf the book sits on
  • Naming the structural shape the book wants
  • Building the writing practice that makes the actual drafting possible
  • Working through the specific places where your draft is stuck

§ Format and booking

One-on-one, on Zoom, shaped to the project.

The cadence and duration of the engagement depend on what your particular project needs. Most begin with a free intro conversation so we can both decide whether the work fits.

Pricing and booking details coming soon. In the meantime, if you'd like to start a conversation, email chad@crossroadspublishing.group directly and I'll reply within a few days.
